The movie “Pretty Woman” (1990) was produced by a woman named Laura Ziskin, who died June 11, 2011 at age 61. This movie was about a prostitute, played by Julia Roberts and a rich trick sugar- daddy played by Richard Gere. Most movies about sex work tend to game-bash, making them not worth your hard earned sex-work dollars.
A big rest in peace shout-out goes to Laura Ziskin for making a movie that showed a sex worker as normal as everybody else. She said “I didn’t want a movie whose message would be that some nice guy will come along and give you nice clothes and lots of money and make you happy”. She insisted on an ending that showed how both character’s viewpoints helped shaped the others, regardless of their chosen profession.
