Spotlight On Colombia Brothels

Spot-light-On-Colombia-Brothels

Cartagena Columbia has become the face of sex-work worldwide. With the never ending scandal involving the Secret Service agents and a Sex Worker who didn’t get paid for services rendered. The media focuses on the negative aspects of the sex trade even though sex-work (prostitution) is legal in Columbia.

All brothel owners are required by law to test Sex Workers with public health officials and keep records. Weekly they are checked for infections by having their vaginas swabbed for a $6 cost. Also, every 90 days they take Aids test for $17. All the media frenzy puts Sex Workers on the defense as normal. The message to those involved in sex-work is clear—demand is at an all time high! This is not to say that the industry is not plagued with problems.
Sex trafficking is the new mantra for aspiring politicians. Backpage.com is under extreme pressure to shut down its adult advertising section because people keep breaking the law by putting minors for sale on the site. What the police will never understand is this: the professionals that work in the sex Industry want to assist the police in doing their jobs. Shutting down Backpage.com won’t stop sex trafficking. Working the people in the industry to correct errors and weed out the bad apples, will go a long way in the fight to make this industry respectable.

If the police would stop and think for a minute, the answer lies right in front of them. Why would Sex Workers want to help them do their job if they threaten their livelihood by criticizing and making it hard for them to work? If you show that you’re willing to accept that adult women can choose to work in the sex industry and you publicly support them, I guarantee they will help solve most crimes committed in the industry. The only support Sex Workers get from phony politicians and police officers are when they are paying customers and nobody is looking.
